COSMIC MESSAGE
About 15,000 years ago, a star in Cygnus exploded, creating a supernova. The shockwave from this explosion is still expanding into space. This image shows the Cygnus Loop, a nebula formed where the shockwave collides with a stationary cloud of gas. The collision heats the gas, causing it to glow in various colors depending on the atoms excited.
