COSMIC MESSAGE
This animated sequence captures a lunar occultation of Saturn, as the Moon passed in front of the ringed planet. Astronomer Kris Stanek recorded this event from the Whipple Observatory. The images show Saturn emerging from behind the Moon's dark limb. Lunar occultations provide opportunities to study the precise positions and movements of celestial bodies.
