Blue Stragglers in Globular Clusters

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Globular cluster 47 Tucanae is ancient, forming billions of years ago. Yet, it contains mysterious stars called 'blue stragglers,' which are bright and blue, and should have lived much shorter lives than the cluster's age. This contradicts the idea that all globular cluster stars formed at once. The Hubble Space Telescope image on the right shows a closeup of the cluster's dense center, with blue stragglers circled.
