A Martian River Bed?

This canyon on Mars, Nanedi Vallis, shows features that suggest it was carved by flowing water. Terraces and channels are visible within the canyon. However, the lack of smaller surface channels also suggests it might have formed from a surface collapse. The Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft recorded this image on January 8, 1998, as it orbited the red planet.
