Fifty years ago, the Apollo 14 crew saw this Earthrise as they left the Moon and headed home. Their command module, Kitty Hawk, orbited the Moon while Earth's crescent peeked over the lunar horizon. The cratered terrain in the foreground is on the lunar farside. From the Moon's surface, Earth would have hung stationary in the sky.
