NGC 604 is a giant stellar nursery, about 1,500 light-years across, located in the spiral galaxy M33. Over 200 hot, massive stars have recently formed within this cavernous nebula. Their energetic ultraviolet light ionizes the surrounding gas, causing it to glow. This nebula provides clues to the processes of star formation in other galaxies.
