NGC 1818: Pick A Star
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 1818 is a young, glittering cluster of 20,000 stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud, 164,000 light-years away. One star, a bluish-white one, is particularly interesting. It appears to be a newly formed white dwarf, despite standard astronomy suggesting only more massive stars become white dwarfs after exhausting their fuel. This challenges our understanding of stellar evolution.
