Skylab Over Earth

Skylab, America's first space station, orbited Earth from 1973 to 1979. Astronauts visited it three times, conducting experiments and making astronomical observations. From Skylab, scientists studied ultraviolet and X-ray light, providing data on Comet Kohoutek and our Sun. The station also helped us understand the mysterious X-ray background radiation that fills the sky.
