M100 is a spiral galaxy with well-defined arms, much like our own Milky Way. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo Cluster, about 56 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. This Hubble Space Telescope image from 1993, taken with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2, shows the central region of M100.
