The Needle Galaxy, NGC 4565, is a spiral galaxy seen edge-on from Earth. Its thin galactic plane is cut by dark dust lanes, and it has a bright, bulging core. Located about 40 million light-years away in Coma Berenices, it spans some 100,000 light-years.
