A Hurricane in the Gulf

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

From space, Hurricane Georges was photographed entering the Gulf of Mexico. This immense storm system, larger than most states, was expected to make landfall that day. Hurricanes grow into large spiraling systems of low pressure, with high winds and driving rain. They are powered by evaporating ocean water, gaining strength over warm water and losing it over land.
