Orion Star Colours

NASA APOD · David Malin
COSMIC MESSAGE

The color of a star tells us its temperature. Red stars are cool, around 3,000 Kelvin, while blue stars are much hotter, over 30,000 Kelvin. Our Sun is a yellow star at about 6,000 Kelvin. This image of Orion, made with a star-trail step-focus technique, dramatically shows these color differences across the sky.
