COSMIC MESSAGE

Asteroid Eugenia, in the main belt, has its own moon. This animation was made from infrared images taken by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in November 1998. Eugenia is 215 kilometers across, and its moon, estimated at 13 kilometers wide, orbits clockwise. An adaptive optics system on the telescope helped to sharpen the images.
