Leonids Above Torre de la Guaita

NASA APOD · Juan Carlos Casado
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Leonids meteor shower of 1999 peaked with a storm of over a thousand meteors per hour, captured here above Torre de la Guaita in Spain. This 20-minute exposure shows the streaks of meteors as Earth passed through the debris trail of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle. These annual meteors originate from dust grains shed by the comet.
