A Leonids Meteor Storm in 1999

NASA APOD · Juan Carlos Casado
COSMIC MESSAGE

The 1999 Leonids meteor shower brought a spectacular display, especially for observers in Europe and the Middle East. This six-minute exposure from Spain captures over a dozen faint meteors, appearing as green streaks radiating from the constellation Leo. While not as bright as some years, the sheer number of meteors created a memorable storm, with rates reaching a meteor every few seconds.
