Hot Gas In Hydra A
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Hydra A galaxy cluster is one of the largest gravitationally bound objects in the universe. This Chandra Observatory X-ray image shows the extremely hot gas, at 40 million degrees, that permeates the cluster. Individual galaxies are too cool to be seen in this X-ray view. Astronomers expected this gas to be cooling and flowing smoothly, but observations reveal a more complex dynamic.
