Orion A, a giant molecular cloud, is a stellar nursery south of the Orion Nebula. The reflection nebula NGC 1999, illuminated by the star V380 Orionis, is visible below center. Its stellar wind appears to sculpt the surrounding red and brown gas. Young stars throughout the region emit powerful jets of gas.
