Eagle EGGs in M16

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Eagle Nebula, M16, contains giant pillars of gas and dust where stars are forming. At the end of these pillars are 'EGGs', or evaporating gaseous globules. These dense regions of molecular hydrogen gas collapse under gravity to form new stars. Light from the hottest, brightest young stars heats the pillar, causing more gas to evaporate and revealing more EGGs.
