COSMIC MESSAGE
This Sungrazer comet was captured by the SOHO spacecraft's LASCO instrument as it approached the Sun. LASCO uses an occulting disk to block the Sun's overwhelming brightness, allowing it to image the fainter corona. The comet's coma is visible as it enters the bright equatorial solar wind region, arcing toward its fiery demise.
