NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Whirlpool Galaxy, M51, is a spiral galaxy 23 million light-years away in Canes Venatici. This 1996 Hubble Space Telescope image shows its nucleus. Astronomers have identified a dense region of young stars at its center, packed into an area only 80 light-years across. These stars are perhaps one tenth the age of our Sun.
