COSMIC MESSAGE

The sky near Antares and Rho Ophiuchi is filled with colors due to a mix of celestial objects and processes. Blue reflection nebulae are created by fine dust illuminated by starlight. Reddish emission nebulae result from gaseous clouds excited by ultraviolet light from nearby stars. Dark dust clouds block starlight, appearing as silhouettes against the brighter regions. Antares, a red supergiant, lights up the yellow-red clouds in the upper left of the image.
