At the Edge of the Crescent Nebula

COSMIC MESSAGE
The Crescent Nebula is a shell of gas expanding rapidly around a dying star. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows a bright, dynamic section of the nebula, about three light-years across. The nebula began to form roughly 250,000 years ago when the central Wolf-Rayet star, WR 136, started shedding its outer layers through a strong stellar wind.
