Lingering Lunar Eclipse

NASA APOD · Noel Munford (Palmerston North Astronomical Society, New Zealand)
COSMIC MESSAGE

On July 16th, the Moon passed through the center of Earth's shadow, resulting in a total lunar eclipse that lasted nearly an hour and 47 minutes, the longest since 1859. This colorful photograph, taken with a small telescope, captures the eclipsed Moon and nearby stars from New Zealand. A longer total lunar eclipse will not occur again until the year 3000.
