The SOHO spacecraft, built to study the Sun, has become an accidental comet hunter. It has discovered hundreds of comets, many of them 'sungrazers.' These icy bodies dive within 50,000 kilometers of the Sun's surface. Few survive the intense heat and gravitational forces at such close range.
