Aurora In West Texas Skies

NASA APOD · Chris Grohusko
COSMIC MESSAGE

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, are not often seen in the southwestern United States. However, a strong solar coronal mass ejection in early August triggered geomagnetic storms and aurora visible even in west Texas. This view was recorded near El Paso, Texas, at a latitude just shy of 32 degrees north. Polaris, the North Star, is visible near the top right of the image.
