COSMIC MESSAGE
This image from the orbiting Polar satellite shows Earth glowing in X-rays, with the brightest emission near the North Pole in red. The Earth itself doesn't glow in X-rays, but the aurora high in its atmosphere do. Energetic ions from the Sun can distort Earth's magnetosphere, leading to these X-ray auroral emissions, detectable by space-based instruments.
