Biomarker Phosphine Discovered in the Atmosphere of Venus

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Scientists have discovered phosphine, PH3, in the atmosphere of Venus. This chemical is considered a biomarker because it is difficult to create through ordinary chemical processes. While Venus' surface is too extreme for known life, its upper atmosphere might be mild enough for tiny airborne microbes. This discovery raises the possibility of life in Venus' atmosphere.
