GRO J1655-40: Evidence for a Spinning Black Hole
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
At the heart of a swirling gas whirlpool, a black hole likely lurks, though it cannot be seen directly. Studies of the gas around GRO J1655-40 show an unusual flickering 450 times a second. This rapid flicker, combined with a mass estimate of seven times our Sun, provides evidence for a spinning black hole.
