During the total lunar eclipse of September 1996, the MSX satellite imaged the Moon from Earth orbit. Its SPIRIT III infrared telescope captured the Moon during the 70-minute totality. Infrared light has longer wavelengths than visible light, allowing for different views of celestial objects.
