On September 18, 1997, the Moon passed in front of Saturn, an event known as a lunar occultation. Astronomer Kris Stanek captured this event from the Whipple Observatory. This animated image shows Saturn emerging from behind the Moon's dark limb, created from frames taken at 35-second intervals.
