Neptune's Great Dark Spot: Gone But Not Forgotten

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

When Voyager 2 flew past Neptune in 1989, it revealed a dynamic planet, not the dormant world astronomers expected. One key discovery was the Great Dark Spot, a storm comparable in size and latitude to Jupiter's Great Red Spot. This close-up view from Voyager 2 shows the turbulent atmosphere of this distant ice giant, even with only 3 percent of the sunlight Jupiter receives.
