COSMIC MESSAGE
Saturn, the second largest planet, displays spectacular auroras, similar to Earth's. This image, from the Hubble Space Telescope's STIS instrument, shows ultraviolet auroral rings encircling Saturn's poles. These displays tower more than 1,000 miles above the cloud tops. Energetic charged particles from the solar wind are funneled by Saturn's magnetic field, causing these glows.
