Earth in True Color

This composite image, primarily from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, shows Earth in its true colors. Blue oceans dominate, with green forests, brown mountains, tan deserts, and white ice also prominent. Oceans appear blue due to water's inherent color and the scattering of blue light from the sky. Forests are green because chlorophyll in plants absorbs red light.
