Comet Ikeya-Zhang, one of the brightest comets in recent memory, reached its peak brightness in March 2002. It was visible without aid from dark locations shortly after sunset. This picture, taken near Tucson, Arizona, shows the comet's active and busy tail. Its estimated brightness was between magnitudes three and four, brighter than many stars.
