Rays from an Unexpected Aurora

COSMIC MESSAGE
This aurora was a bit of a surprise. No intense auroral activity was expected, and it showed an unusual structure of green rays from some locations. This image, captured from North Dakota, shows a picket fence of green rays stretching toward the horizon. Mirroring the green rays is a red band, somewhat rare in its own right.
