Tycho and Clavius

NASA APOD · Eduardo Schaberger Poupeau
COSMIC MESSAGE

This detailed telescopic view shows the Moon's rugged southern highlands. It features the large craters Tycho and Clavius. Tycho, near the center, is about 100 million years old and 85 kilometers in diameter. Its central peak is 2 kilometers tall. Debris ejected during the impact that created Tycho makes it a prominent feature on the Moon.
