The Northern Milky Way

COSMIC MESSAGE

Our home Milky Way Galaxy appears as a dim band across the sky. This part of the Galaxy passes closest over the north pole. The diffuse white glow is from billions of stars, while the red patches are emission nebulae. These nebulae often mark areas where bright stars have recently formed.
