Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the Solar System, cuts across Mars for over 3,000 kilometers. It is up to 600 kilometers wide and 8 kilometers deep. For comparison, Earth's Grand Canyon is 800 kilometers long and 1.8 kilometers deep. The canyon's origin is still unknown, but it may have started as a crack billions of years ago.
