The 2MASS Galaxy Sky

COSMIC MESSAGE

Our local universe is not a random collection of galaxies. The Two Micron All Sky Survey, or 2MASS, mapped over a million of the brightest infrared sources in the sky. Most of these sources are galaxies, and they trace out a web of clusters and superclusters. This map helps us understand how the universe formed and evolved.
