Eclipsed Moon in Infrared
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Midcourse Space Experiment satellite had a unique view of the September 1996 lunar eclipse. From Earth orbit, its SPIRIT III infrared telescope imaged the Moon repeatedly during the 70 minutes of totality. This image shows the Moon fully immersed in Earth's shadow, glowing in infrared light, which has longer wavelengths than visible light.
