NASA's Helios aircraft, a remotely piloted ultralight flying wing, demonstrated solar-powered flight. Pictured here at 10,000 feet near Kauai, Hawaii, it flew at about 25 miles per hour. Its impressive 247-foot wide wing was covered with solar cells to power its 14 electric motors.
