The Spitzer Space Telescope's infrared view penetrates the dust of the Elephant's Trunk Nebula, revealing hidden protostars. This region, 2,450 light-years away in Cepheus, is part of the larger IC 1396 emission nebula. The protostars appear as bright spots, still embedded in the dense gas and dust where they are forming.
