The Crab Nebula from CFHT

NASA APOD · Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Crab Nebula is the debris left after a star exploded in 1054 AD. This image, taken by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope, shows the nebula's complex filaments in three colors chosen for scientific study. The filaments appear to have less mass and higher speeds than expected from the original supernova, and the nebula spans about 10 light-years.
