Comet ZTF over Mount Etna

NASA APOD · Dario Giannobile
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet ZTF is visible above the snowy peaks of Mount Etna in this wintry skyscape. The comet's greenish coma and broad dusty tail are caused by increasing sunlight on its nucleus and the solar wind. This image, a blend of exposures from January 23, captures the comet as it dashes across the northern sky. It offers a unique view of a celestial visitor over an active volcano.
