An Iridescent Cloud Over France
NASA APOD · Michael Koch
COSMIC MESSAGE
An iridescent cloud forms when sunlight diffracts through tiny, uniform water droplets. This splits the light into different colors, much like a prism. When the Sun is mostly hidden by thicker clouds, these thinner, higher clouds can display vivid, changing hues. This phenomenon is relatively rare and depends on precise atmospheric conditions.
