Missoula Crater on Mars

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Spirit rover sent back this view of Missoula Crater on Mars. The crater fills much of the frame, showing rocks and hills. Orbital images suggested ejecta from another crater, Bonneville, inside Missoula. However, Spirit found only wind-blown drifts, and the rocks show small cavities that may have formed as water vapor evaporated from cooling lava.
