Cosmic Construction Zone RCW 49

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Spitzer Space Telescope's infrared view of RCW 49 shows a cosmic construction zone where stars and planets are forming. Hot, known stars are clearing out the nebula's central regions. The image also reveals over 300 newborn stars scattered among dust clouds and filaments. The infrared data suggest the presence of protoplanetary discs around some of these infant suns.
