Volcano and Aurora in Iceland

NASA APOD · Sigurdur H. Stefnisson
COSMIC MESSAGE

Sometimes both heaven and Earth erupt at once, as seen in Iceland in 1991. The volcano Hekla erupted while auroras shimmered overhead. Hekla, a famous volcano, has erupted at least 20 times over the past thousand years. The green auroral band occurred about 100 kilometers above the erupting lava, creating a spectacular dual display.
