A Perseid Meteor

COSMIC MESSAGE

The Perseid Meteor Shower was strongest on the nights of August 11th and 12th. Grains of cosmic sand and gravel shed from Comet Swift-Tuttle vaporize as they enter Earth's atmosphere, creating these streaks of light. The best time to watch was between 2:00 AM and dawn, when dozens of meteors per hour were visible in dark, moonless skies. Sky enthusiasts in Europe and Asia even saw an unusual burst of meteors.
