Mammatus Clouds over Saskatchewan
NASA APOD · Michael F Johnston
COSMIC MESSAGE
Most cloud bottoms are flat, formed where moist air condenses at a specific height. But sometimes, cloud pockets develop with large droplets of water or ice. These can fall into clear air, evaporating as they go. This creates the bubble-like shapes of mammatus clouds, often seen in turbulent air near a thunderstorm, as in this photo over Saskatchewan.
